Chaos and carnage

A news.com.au reporter has described the latest earthquake in California as leading to "chaos and carnage" but so far I have seen a video of a backyard pool splashing around, and a picture of a small fire , a crack in a road and a room with a bit of crockery on the floor . Was this "chaos" or "carnage " or has there been a bit more damage here and there?
